Fifi & Fido

Now that this has been delivered I can finally let the cat out of the bag and share...  I love this simple Disappearing 9 patch pattern for a quick baby quilt that looks complicated!

I'd picked up this sweet Fifi & Fido collection at Marden's.  I'm really trying to bust my stash and now that I don't have a LQS grabbing more fabric means driving or waiting.  Fortunately I have more than enough fabric to shop on my shelves;-)  My original plan was to use the green print for the crosses but I think it really pops as the accent.

It takes such a leap of faith to cut up a perfectly fine quilt block!

It's been such a long time since I've done FMQ so I kept it simple with this loopy meander that echoes the design of the novelty print.

I completely planned this out to make the biggest quilt I could using all of the cat fabric.  I love how this stripy binding ties it all together.

In an attempt to use up every last scrap I made this matching pillow.  I think these are so sweet as a nursery set.

Note to self: quilting with black thread on black fabric is really hard on the eyes!  I don't know why I didn't think to use a buttonhole stitch with Aurifil 12 wt. to give it more definition like my bunny pillow since I used the same wash-away applique sheet technique.

  1. Hi Alidiza! I love the name of this quilt, and I wondered how it came about until I looked at your fabric! How fabulous!! And the meandering quilt pattern is just PURRfect for this quilt. I have been meaning to make a disappearing 9-patch quilt all year, and haven't gotten around to it. I even purchased a quilt kit last New Year's Eve . . . and it is still sitting there. You are inspiring me to get on it. Happy Happy Friday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. To me, the cats and palette have a '50s vibe, which I love. Thanks for the reminder of what's possible with a simple DNP!

  3. This is a very nice quilt. I agree that the green pops quite nicely and your quilting is perfect with the loops in the fabric. Nicely done.
